THE GREAT EXCHANGE

I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. (‭Romans‬ ‭12‬:‭1-2‬ ESV)

Our human nature tends to get us in a lot of trouble with many things in life. There is a constant struggle and tension between our flesh and our spirit that are at war with one another.

We deal with issues like pride and self-reliance and self-centeredness which are completely opposite of the way that God wants us to be or act.

Although we don't want the responsibilities of being God we tend to want to climb up on the throne of God and call our own shots about the way our life is going what we want to happen in our life.

So, now God comes along and says "present your bodies as a living sacrifice" and "don't be conformed to this world" and "be renewed in your mind." He calls us to crawl off the throne of God, where we do not belong, and crawl onto the altar of God, where we do belong.

The quite amazing exchange happens when we surrender control of our lives and allow God to call the shots in our lives.

When we worship and attribute worth to God, something amazing happens... He in turn, attributes HIS worth back to us as his children.

When we worship God - it expresses the relationship we have with God and our dependence on Him. As we fall in love with Him we become more like Him and we no longer want to do our own thing.

We understand then what it means to "offer our body" as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable to God."

The great exchange is this - "His life" for "my life." I am no longer the master of my ship but I am allowing Him to be my captain and director of my life.

This time of year is a great time to evaluate or re-evaluate your life and priorities. Is God calling the shots or are you calling the shots? Is He Lord of your life or are you Lord of your own life.

May I encourage you to surrender your time and energy to the one who knows and loves you best.
