BUT GOD...

But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— (Ephesians 2:4, 5 ESV)

We all have our stories.  All of can all look back and reflect about some of the things we did before becoming a Christian.  It's not pretty.  It's a story of failure, defeat, sin and more sin.  Those things we did fill us with much shame and disgust that we are embarrassed that we would have even gone down that path. "BUT GOD" showed up and changed everything.  He filled us with His loved and gave us His forgiveness.  We were once "dead in our trespasses" but now we have been "made alive together with Christ - by grace you have been saved."  I was reading a passage of scripture the other day from Luke 7 - about a woman coming to Jesus and washing his feet with her tears and wiping them with her hair.  Jesus tells Peter... "Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.” (Luke 7:37).  She realized that her sins were many and she was so thankful to find hope and life again.  None of us are exempt from this - whether your sins were little or many - we all have to have that time when God steps in and have a "But God" experience.  That, we realize that it is by His grace we are where we are today.  The past is past and over and now our hearts are like the woman crying and kissing the feet of Jesus - so glad to be free and so glad that God showed up and gave a new lease on life - "But God!"
