ADVENT - DAY 3 - SLEEP AND LISTEN TO GOD

ANTICIPATING GOD IN THE CHRISTMAS SEASON (A Daily Advent Devotional)

Over the next few days till Christmas I would like you to take a journey with me in anticipation.  Let's daily look at the events leading up to the birth of Christ with a sense of anticipation of His arrival into this world and into our lives. (Inspired by the Book "The Miraculous Journey" by Marty A. Bullis).

Advent Day 3 - Sleep And Listen To God

And her husband Joseph, being a just man and unwilling to put her to shame, resolved to divorce her quietly. But as he considered these things, behold, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, do not fear to take Mary as your wife, for that which is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 1:19, 20 ESV)

Dreams for the most part are a strange thing.  Some people build their whole lives around dreams.  When we have an odd dream - most of us chalk it up to something we ate or some chemical imbalance.  But once in a while a dream captures us.  It becomes a symbol for our life situation.  These God-inspired dreams become a reason for our existence and guide our life path.  Perhaps this is why God used a dream in Joseph's life - to be a driving force into the safety of his family and especially to the birth of the coming Messiah.  It undoubtedly consumed his every waking thought.  To take on and believe his fiancee Mary that an angel had visited her and that she was pregnant would be too much for most men to handle.  So God spoke to Him in a dream.  God came and showed him what was taking place and what he was to do.  God's voice to Joseph brought direction and salvation to his family during a season of much strife and confusion.  "Joseph, wake up - the baby Mary is carrying is mine.  I want you to take care of her."  As you anticipate God this Christmas season -  ask these questions: Is God speaking to you right now to "wake up."  Is He trying to get your attention over some situation?  Perhaps when you go to bed tonight you should say, "God, I'm going to sleep and listen to your voice"
