ADVENT - DAY 1 - WHY DID JESUS COME TO EARTH

ANTICIPATING GOD IN THE CHRISTMAS SEASON (A Daily Advent Devotional)

Over the next few days till Christmas I would like you to take a journey with me in anticipation.  Let's daily look at the events leading up to the birth of Christ with a sense of anticipation of His arrival into this world and into our lives. (Inspired by the Book "The Miraculous Journey" by Marty A. Bullis).

Advent Day 1 - Why Did Jesus Come To Earth?

Now the birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way...(Matthew 1:18 ESV)

Jesus' birth into this world was not as it's been portrayed by the media and those selling ornaments of a baby born into peace.  No, it was much different place filled with strife.  He came into a society with political confusion and to a land whose king was insane.  In fact, it is he who tried to kill all the boys 2 years and under to ensure that no other king would be able to survive. But I want you to think about this also: that the coming of Jesus came as a confrontation to our own sinfulness and rebellion against God.  Notice what Matthew 10:34 says... “Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. (Matthew 10:34 ESV)."  Jesus came to bring an all out assault on the sinfulness of mankind and to give us a way of escape over our sinful lives.  His coming confronts us and leads us to making a decision one way or another about the way we lead our lives.  Ultimately, the reason He came was this: "She will bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:21 ESV).  As you ponder and anticipate His coming today... it is this: the reason Jesus came was to save you from your sins.
